Every year my girls do Good Deeds during December. Each day they pick a slip of paper with a good deed, something nice to do for someone else. Rachel, being something of a procrastinator and definitely lacking in organizational skills, put off doing most of her good deeds until the last minute. Which is today. So in between making cards, doing chores, and cleaning her room we had a quick photo shoot. The weather was balmy, so we didn't even need jackets on December 24th!
Rachel is 9 now and really growing up. She adores her teacher at school and has tackled the increasing workload of 3rd grade with enthusiasm - multiplication tables, essay writing, state assessment prep. She likes to read and loves to have others read to her. She and I read the Harry Potter series last year and the Percy Jackson series this year. She is obsessed with Greek mythology and reads anything she can find about the gods and their stories. Rachel is, as always, incredibly social. She has friends at school, friends at church, friends in the neighborhood, and friends anywhere she goes and prefers to be in the company of others. Granny is teaching her to sew and she is very excited about this new hobby. Rachel loves listening to music (Pentatonix is her current favorite), fixing her hair in different styles by herself, makeup (sigh...), doing gymnastics in the front yard, wearing boots, and coloring. She has become an expert eye-roller, but is still almost always happy and incredibly affectionate. She is such a fun kid!
