Island Park

The spring before Katherine came home, our town opened a fabulous playground - all built by volunteer labor. It had a castle, a barn, a viking ship, and all sorts of swings and slides and climbing equipment. It was amazing!  When Kate was a toddler, vandals burned the playground to the ground.

When Katherine was in preschool, not too long before Rachel came home, the playground was rebuilt. It had a new and improved castle, barn, viking ship, and even more swings and slides and climbing equipment. It was even more amazing than the first playground!

Fifteen months ago, when the girls were 5 and 9, arsonists destroyed the playground again. This spring, a huge group of vounteers (including Poppy) built the playground for a third time. It still has a castle and a barn and a viking ship and all sorts of swings and slides and climbing equipment. They are even more amazing than ever!

The park re-opened a few weeks ago and this morning, Granny and the girls and I went to play. It was cool and damp and we had the place pretty much to ourselves. Now this is a playground!
