Birthday Girl

Katherine turned 9 today.  Nine!  I know I have been there every every step of that time, every day after the first nine months.  And I know that some of those days and moments took forever.  But still, NINE?  She can't possibly be that old!  But she is...

I used to look at her and see the face of that little baby I used to have.  But now, that baby has become harder and harder to see.  Now I catch glimpses of the young woman she is rapidly becoming.

Tonight, Katherine celebrated with her family.  She asked for soup for dinner, and helped me make it.  I had asked if she wanted penguin cupcakes again, but she didn't.  After some thought, she decided that she wanted cherry cheesecake.  If I wasn't going to make it homemade (and I wasn't) then the mix from a box would do.  So that's what we made.

Granny was sick tonight and so was Uncle Brandon.  Our party was small - Poppy, Robie, Grandma and Grandpa, Aunt Sharon, and us.  All the people Katherine loves best.
She had asked for legos and artist pencils and a book of Chinese characters.  She got them all.  And books, of course.  Lots and lots of books.
Granny made her a nightgown in Chinese lantern print flannel.
Katherine was so pleased with her birthday.  With the food and the gifts and the love of her family.  I may not be able to believe that she is 9, but she is.  Of course she is.  And nine is a terrific age, just ask my 9 year old.
Happy 9th birthday, Katherine Guo Dan.  I'm so glad you are mine.
