Smart Little Piggy

Katherine came home a few weeks ago and told me that 1st grade was going to do a play.  I was expecting that - 1st grade always does a little end-of-the-year play and they often raid my classroom for props.  A day or two later Kate announced that the play was The Three Piggy Opera.  I was surprised, as that was a childrens' play that I had actually heard of not just a teacher-written skit.  When Katherine came home the next day and calmly said "You know The Three Piggy Opera?  I'm going to be the brick pig.  Do you want to hear my song?" I was speechless.  Sometimes she amazes me!

Today was the big day.  Granny, Poppy, Rachel, Aunt Robie, and I all squeezed into the packed music room to see The Three Piggy Opera.  It was darling!  Every child had a line, the piggies were adorable, and the Big Bad Wolf sang "I want a big, fat pig to eat!"  Katherine sang her lines loud and clear and directed her piggy siblings to join her in her "brick" house.  What fun!
At the end of the show she was glad to be rid of her nose and piggy ears, but she was happy to pose in front ofher brick house.
The kids also sang a song in sign language.  Kate has been excited about this song for a long time!

Then it was time for some awards.  Katherine is a great student and a big reader, so she got lots.  Afterward we visited her room for some snacks.
It was a big day and we were all so proud!
