I took the girls to a local Gingerbread Festival this morning. We had a lot of fun! We were met at the entrance by a giant gingerbread boy and girl. Rachel was totally fascinated with them!
Once inside we checked out the fabulous gingerbread houses on display and voted for out favorites. (All will later be auctioned off for charity). The girls both loved the gingerbread castle with a pink roof and I liked the gingerbread tree house. We all agreed Steve would have chosen the gingerbread doghouse with Snoopy on top.
We listened to some Christmas stories and then we were ready to work. All of our supplies were handed over - a box with a styrofoam house frame, pre-cut graham crackers, a cup of icing, and cups of assorted candies for decoration. Woohoo! No prep work for this project.
Then is was time to decorate. Katherine took a long time and arranged her decorations neatly.
Rachel, of course, wasn't that patient. She really just wanted to eat the candy, but when I said "no" to that she slapped everything on as fast as possible and tried to lick out the icing cup.
It was a pretty sticky project.
But the results were great! The girls are SO proud of their gingerbread houses. Now we just have to see how long it takes before the candies disappear.
